about

I've been fascinated with the artistry and technology of the animation industry for most of my life...

I grew up in Victoria, BC, Canada, where I graduated from Visual Arts at Comosun College in 1983. From there, I moved to Oakville, Ontario, and graduated from classical 2D animation at Sheridan College in 1987. While at college, I was fortunate enough to learn about the emerging field of 3D animation, which was in its infancy. I enrolled and graduated from Sheridan’s new 3d animation course in 1988.

Since then, I have worked in all aspects of production. My main interests are in design, modeling, rigging and cinematography. I have also been very involved with studio and production pipeline development.

I have experience in television, games, vfx, feature film and stereoscopic productions. I have guest lectured and taught at Sheridan College, Humber College has also invited me to sit on their advisory board for the animation program several times.

My wife, Lisa, and I live on our small farm just north of Toronto. We enjoy spending time riding our horses on the many roads and trails in our area.  Our quiet home life is a nice contrast to the hectic schedules of film and tv production.

Other Interests

jif

My wife, Lisa, and I got involved with the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Agency when we adopted our horse Jif. Over the years, we have helped the association with their show events to promote the breed and help others see the value in adopting one of these excellent horses when they retire from racing.

Jif has competed in many events, both under saddle and in harness. In 2013, we took him to the World Standardbred Championship in Ohio where he won his driving class.

Trail riding has also been a quiet way to pass the time.

Pachyrinosaur dig

Another interest has alway been Dinosaurs. I’ve been fascinated with them since childhood. It’s one of the reasons I got into animation. I’m always looking for a project that involves reconstructing these great animals.

I have taken courses in early life and paleontology at the University of Alberta online. In 2019 I was able to go on a dinosaur dig in Alberta with the Phil Currie Museum. There is nothing like spending time digging up a 70 million year old Pachyrhinosaurus to appreciate the hard work and patience it takes to understand these creatures.

Old aircraft are also a passion of mine. Particularly open cockpit aircraft. It’s an interesting subject for digital artwork.

I have been lucky enough to fly in a Stearman bi-plane over Napa Valley in California. Doing full aerobatics at sun set.

I have also had the chance to fly in a dog fight over Carlsbad California in a Varga VG-21 aircraft. Courtesy of Top Dog Air Combat. Definitely a “bucket list” event.
